Year 3
Woolly Mammoths
Our English unit is Instructions and today the children were able to follow instructions to make a woolly mammoth. They worked in pairs and had a fantastic time!
Network Walk
Year 3 have been learning all about networks during their computing lessons. We had a trip around the school to see what IT equipment we could find. Mrs MacQueen showed us lots of interesting equipment, including desktop computers, network sockets, wireless access points and even the servers.
Bronze Age
Year 3 worked in groups to identify how people’s lives were changed after the discovery of bronze.
Class Worship
Year 3 learned about Human Dignity and talked about what Jesus would do help others. We decided to follow his footsteps and pray for others during our meditation
Skara Brae
Children imagined that they were archaeologists who had just discovered Skara Brae for the first time. They discussed in groups what information they would tell the news reporter.
Light
Our topic in science this term is Light. Our scientists in Year 3 worked methodically and scientifically to find out which materials reflect light. They concluded that materials like mirrors, glass and tinfoil are good reflectors of light. They also carried out an investigation to see which materials would let the light from a torch shine through them. They used the vocabulary transparent, translucent and opaque to describe the materials they were testing.
God's Creation
There are many hymns that show praise to God’s Creation. When we sing these, we are showing praise and glory to God. Year 3 sang ‘He’s got the whole world in his hands’ using the Makaton signs. Well done Year 3!
Pilgrims of Hope Pledge Day
Year 3 had a great day by taking part in a workshop, reading a pledge, watching a short video and carrying out a HOPE prayer pilgrimage around the school path.
The Big Dig
Year 3 became archaeologists for the day, digging in mud to find artefacts to help us learn about the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age. While we were digging, we found lots of different objects from different periods of time. We had to sort them into artefacts from the past and artefacts from the modern day. We had a fantastic time and learnt what it might be like to be an archaeologist and how objects found can tell us about the past. Some of the artefacts we found were hammerstones, flint stones, coins, pebble tools and jewellery. What an exciting day it has been!
Creation
Children In Year 3 thought about the question ‘What do you give thanks for within Creation?’ Here are some of their responses.
Stone Age
We began our topic by becoming hunter gatherers! We learnt about what life was like as a hunter-gatherer during the Stone Age and compared it to how we get our food now. We also learnt that farming developed after this time.
The hunters had to search for the Stone Age animals and strike them with their weapons (beanbags!) three times! The gatherers had to look for fact cards about plants, berries and nuts. We learnt about what they may have been used for during the Stone Age.
