St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Primary School

“I have called you by your name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1

Our special needs policy is founded upon particular beliefs and values:

We believe that human beings have a divine origin and an eternal destiny. We believe that each individual is unique and equal to others regardless of sex, nationality, colour, creed, class, wealth or intellectual ability. We believe that all people are formed, sustained and affirmed through the process of relating to others. If we are to be individuals there is no escape from interdependence. We believe that education is a moral transaction between one generation and another. It takes place in communities, the home, the school and the parish.

Our purpose in special education is derived from these beliefs.

Catholic beliefs should permeate all decisions concerning SEN in the way we interpret the law and the policies and actions we produce. The quality of our decisions and actions are not to be judged solely upon the ease with which they fit within our rights under the law, but primarily by the way with which they reside within the principles and values of our faith.

The school has a set procedure for identifying and assessing children with SEN which involves teachers, parents and the children themselves.

If you would like to find out more about SEN provision our SENCo is Mrs Atherton: you can make an appointment with her by contacting the school office.
