In our science lesson, we were investigating how to make a switch to put into a circuit. We found out you can use split pins, card and a paperclip! By putting the switch into the circuit, you can complete the circuit to make the bulb work.
Gymnastics
As part of our gymnastics topic, we have used apparatus while demonstrating our skills of jumping, such as tuck, straight, straddle and pike and balances, such as arabesque, v-sit and shoulder stand. We have thought about our start, middle and end of the sequence and persevered to improve our gymnastic skills.
World Book Day
We had a great time on World Book Day! We dressed up as our favourite book characters, spent time reading, made bookmarks and did craft with our reading buddies.
Circuit Challenge
In our science lesson, we have been learning about simple series circuits. The children were given the components and then had a five-minute challenge to make the bulb light up. Lots of them managed to do it in the time they had!
Sound
To finish off our Science topic of Sound, we made string telephones to see what would happen to the volume of our voices over distance. We discovered that travelling through air, sound gets quieter over distance. However, using a string telephone means the vibrations are travelling down a solid surface so the sound can still be heard at the other end!
Pop Art
We have really enjoyed our art topic, Pop Art, this half term. We used Andy Warhol as inspiration and created our own version of his Campbell Soup Tin piece. We had to use careful observation in our sketching and contrasting colours to make our work stand out!
Sound Walk
To start our new topic of “Sound” we went for a walk around school and listened really carefully for all the different sounds we could hear. We then tried to think about where the sounds came from and what words we could use to describe them.
Anglian Water
We had a visitor from Anglian Water come in to teach us all about being sustainable with water. We learnt only 1% of water on Earth is drinkable so we need to make sure we look after it! We now know lots of different ways that we can use water in a more sustainable way at home and at school.
Christmas Cracked
Year 4 had a great time with Luke at Christmas Cracked. We played lots of games and learnt more about the true meaning of Christmas – that God loves us so much he sent his son Jesus for us.
World War II Day
Year 4 had a great World War Two day! We completed our VE day cakes, adding our chosen ingredients – we thought they tasted pretty good! We learnt all about the Blitz and had a couple of air raid sirens and we also learnt about the diverse contribution of black and Asian soldiers in the British army during WWII.
Bletchley Park
Year 4 had a super day at Bletchley Park. We managed to walk there without getting too wet and then had a day filled with activities. We had a codes and ciphers session where we learned about the enigma machine and different types of code, like Morse Code. We had some time to explore the park on our own and we also had a guided tour to find out what it would have been like to work at Bletchley Park during the war.
Wartime Sponge Cake
We looked at the basic wartime recipe for a sponge cake and discussed the utensils and skills required to make the cake. We practised creaming margarine and sugar, cracking an egg and mixing the ingredients together. We had a great time!
Digestive System
We had great fun doing a demonstration of the digestive system in our science lesson today. We used a plastic bag as a mouth and a stomach, imagined the food going down the oesophagus and then used some tights as the intestines. We enjoyed seeing the journey food goes on and getting a bit messy!
Debating Practice
In preparation for No Pens Day, which we are celebrating in a couple of weeks, we practised our debating skills in class. We took some time to formulate our arguments and then in our groups presented our ideas to the class. It was a good chance to develop our public speaking and our confidence.
Remembrance Day
Year 4B did a fantastic assembly all about World War Two and the importance of Remembrance Day. They learnt their lines, sang beautifully and told us lots of interesting information. Well done!
Ink Printing
After designing a tile to make a print pattern, we made a final design and did our final printing pattern in our art books. We tried to make them symmetrical and used bright colours to make them stand out. We took our inspiration from the work of William Morris. We think they turned out really well!
October, Month of the Holy Rosary
Mrs Guina, an expert in praying the Rosary, taught our class a bit more about why the Rosary is important and how to pray using the Rosary beads. We prayed a decade together in class.
People - Respond Lesson
In this topic, we have been remembering, celebrating and responding to our family trees and the family of God in Scripture. During our Respond lesson, each table took a different section from Gather, Listen to the Word, Respond and Go Forth in Mission. We then carried out the session together.
Block Printing
Today, Year 4 practised their block printing in preparation for their final piece next week. We had already created our template out of polystyrene and then used acrylic paint to create a repeated pattern. We learnt that we will need to use a little less paint and press our design into our tile more but overall we were very happy!
Invertebrates Hunt
Year 4 had a great Science lesson learning about the different types of invertebrates. We then used classification keys to identify the different invertebrates we could find in the local environment. We found lots of different invertebrates, for example, ants, slugs, snails and spiders!
Reasoned Rounding
Year 4 have been learning about rounding numbers. We played a game called Reasoned Rounding where the challenge was to round numbers and fill a circle before our partner did – we had a lot of fun!
