Year 1
Space Centre
We had a wonderful school trip to the Space Centre.
Medieval Day
Our topic this half term is ‘Turrets and Tiaras’. On Tuesday 11th March the children celebrated their topic with a medieval day in school.
We were visited by a Jester, who taught us lots of Jester skills, we ate a medieval feast in the grand hall and held birds of prey that were owned by the kings and queens of that time.
Antarctica
Year 1 returned to school to find blocks of ice on their tables. Frozen inside were clues about our new topic.
When the ice had melted we discovered a feather, a compass, a map, an advert and a ship. Our topic is Antarctica and we will be learning about a famous explorer called Ernest Shackleton.
Families
This half term our focus in RE is ‘Families’. We have been learning about how we show love and care to others and that we belong to the family of God. Here are some of our end of day prayers, thanking God for the love and care He gives us in the day.
In our mediation sessions, we have been learning about the story of ‘God’s Creation’ and ‘Noah’s Ark’.
Do we always need our sight to do things?
Our Science topic this half term is ‘Ourselves and Other Animals’. This week we have been focusing on the sense of sight and tested the question: ‘Do we always need our sight to do things?’
We closed our eyes and tried clapping, jumping on the spot, drawing a picture and throwing a ball at a target. Here are some photographs of our experiment.
French Lesson
On European Languages Day, Miss Miles taught us how to say some French Greetings. We also tasted some pain au chocolat and hot chocolate.
