PSHE
Our Learning Sequence
At St Thomas Aquinas we want our children to become independent, responsible and healthy members of society who develop these skills throughout their time in school. St Thomas Aquinas School aims to build a PSHE curriculum which links in with our half termly values as well as embedding core PSHE learning opportunities into the wider curriculum. It will prepare pupils in the three main areas of: health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world.
PSHE is taught across the curriculum, depending on where each PSHE topic fits into the various curriculum areas e.g. food and nutrition – science. Friendship – RE. Teachers have been given a checklist for their year group and can use this to ensure their planning includes the topics – these will be highlighted.
Once a week a twenty minute slot is dedicated to the teaching of our school value of the half term or other PSHE areas (such as bullying).
Teaching Sequence for Values:
- Introducing the new value
- Reviewing recent learning and having focused activities
- Providing pupils with links to how values are used in life through guest speakers or stories
