World Book Day

We enjoyed a super exciting World Book Day in Reception! We began the day with a super assembly with Pep the Poet. Back in our classroom, we shared some new Supertato stories and our very own Evil Pea got up to lots of mischief! Supertato had to keep saving everyone, but luckily she had lots of super veggy friends to help her!  We took part in lots of super activities linked to our Supertato stories. We also shared stories of some of the other wonderful World Book Day characters who were in Reception! A super day for us all.

St Thomas Aquinas Feast Day

In Reception, we celebrated a wonderful Feast Day. We all enjoyed a special Mass together and then found out lots more about St Thomas Aquinas. We know that he was a great writer so we wrote our own books about our friends. We also made paper puppets to play with. We talked about St Thomas Aquinas saying ‘The Things that we love tell us what we are’. To show this, we each made a bookmark, drawing a picture of someone we love and something that we love to do. We ended the day with our own delicious feast!

Chinese New Year

In Reception we enjoyed celebrating Chinese New Year. Throughout the week, we took part in so many different activities to help us learn more about this great celebration. We made our own concertina Chinese dragons, created beautiful lanterns, counted lucky coins in our red purses and wrote numbers in Chinese. We also worked together to paint and create two amazing dragons which we used to perform wonderful dragon dancing at the end of the week, as well as sharing a little Chinese Feast.

Diwali

As part of our Celebrations topic, we are learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali. We have been dressing up to celebrate and have been making beautiful diyas out of clay. We will take these home with a candle in, at the end of the week, to share with our families.

People Who Help Us

Reception were very lucky to have three special visitors to help us learn more about our topic, ‘People Who Help Us’.

Nurse Hannah told us all about her job working with children at the hospital and how she helps to make them feel better. She let us try out her special stethoscope on ourselves, and each other.

PC McInerney talked about all the people he helps in his job, keeping people safe and helping people to make good choices. He even showed us how to use his handcuffs.

Paramedic Tracey brought her ambulance to school! We were all able to go on board the ambulance and explore the amazing equipment in there that helps so many people to feel better.

We decided that these people are all real-life superheroes and we learned so much from their visits.
