Recycling

Our topic is learning how we recycle waste and what happens to materials that can’t be recycled. As part of this topic the Year 4 classes visited the Milton Keynes Landfill site.  The rubbish collected is dumped into a big hole and when full it is covered with clay and soil and trees and grass are then planted to reclaim the area.  Methane gas collected from the site is used to power a generator which produces electricity.  They use falcons to scare off seagulls and other animals from the site. We learnt the importance of getting rid of our rubbish in a way that does not hurt the environment.
