“I have called you by your name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1

Year 2G

Science Day

Year 2 carried out lots of experiments today. First we looked at how rain is created and made our own rain clouds.  Next we looked at a non-Newtonian liquid and how its properties differ from normal liquid properties. We found that it shares properties with a solid and thought of some scientific questions to explore deeper.  Finally we carried out a coin cleaning experiment. We found out that a salt and vinegar solution works best to clean coins and it had the best chemical reaction with the copper. We then left coins to air dry and discovered that when left in ketchup, the coins have another chemical reaction with the sodium chloride and turns the copper coins blue.

World Book Day

It was so lovely to see so many children dressed up as their favourite book characters. In Year 2, we decided to draw our favourite book character onto a piece of fabric and we created a book blanket for our display.

Banana Experiment

In Year 2, we have been learning all about materials. This week we carried out a banana experiment. We chopped up, mashed up and squished bananas. We then tried to put it all back together. We realised that this was impossible – this was an irreversible change!

Howe Park Wood

Year 2 had such a wonderful time at Howe Park Wood this week. We were able to catch lots of different mini-beasts in different habitats and look at them closely under a magnifying glass. Children even managed to hold a grasshopper while exploring. We were also lucky enough to learn more about plants and how they adapt to their environments and how humans sometimes have to intervene.
