“I have called you by your name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1

Year 1

Sharing RE Books

We gathered to reflect on what we have learned about the Easter story. It was great to hear Year 3 teaching Year 1 with confidence, knowledge and respect. They are great role models.

Palm Sunday

Year 1 learnt about the significance of Palm Sunday by re-enacting it with their very own palm leaves that they had decorated. We thought about how Jesus felt on his journey and the importance of marking Holy Week.

World Book Day

We had so much fun on World Book Day! We started the day meeting a cool author, followed by some painting and working with our reading buddies to create a new creature for the ‘Gruffalo!’ We looked great!

The Greedy Zebra

This week, Year 1 have been reading a story called ‘The Greedy Zebra.’ We designed a new coat for the Greedy Zebra rather than black and white stripes. Year 1 did a great job using an abundance of great adjectives as well as the conjunction ‘and.’

Gymnastics

Last half term, Year 1 were practising their gymnastic skills. They practised a variety of different rolls, jumps, shapes and holds. We had so much fun performing and using equipment to show these.

Space Adventures

Year 1 have been learning all about space this half term. They have worked tremendously hard with their writing, creating a poster for a story we have been reading and creating their own detailed sentences with adjectives and conjunctions. They are fantastic!

Instructions

Year 1 had to follow instructions to make their very own jam sandwich. We looked at Ernest Shakleton - an explorer who had to give and follow instructions to keep his crew safe. We will be writing our own instructions within the next week.

Making Igloos

This half term, Year 1 have been tasked to design, create and make their very own igloo. They had to think about the shape and purpose. They look great!

Salcey Forest

Year 1 had a brilliant trip to Salcey Forest. We started off on our adventure to find the Gruffalo! (A text we had been looking at the beginning of last half term). We then proceeded to make dens and look at different shelters - this will help us with our igloo building this half term. After a great morning, it was time for lunch before we played at the park. We had so much fun! It was a very successful trip!

No Pens' Day

Year 1 were tasked to follow a set of instructions to create a really yummy treat. They had to listen and work together to assemble their treat. They had so much fun doing this and they enjoyed eating it even more!

God's Planet

The wonderful Eco-Committee came to see Year 1 and tell them how they look after God’s beautiful planet at school. They also shared some inspirational ideas that we could do outside school. It was truly inspiring to see all the different ways we can look after the world!  We can all be stewards!

Sounds Walk

Year 1 listened to a new poem called The Sound Collector by Roger McGough. We went on a sounds walk around the school and heard lots of exciting things such as Mrs Taylor-Law teaching, music lessons and even Year 5 doing a spelling test. Outside, we heard cars whizzing past,  the crunching of leaves, red kites and the wind whistling. We came back and wrote all the different sounds we heard on our walk.

CAFOD Pledge Day

We started the day off with an assembly about all the special things we would like with us, if we were going somewhere, followed by making pilgrimage shells. Year 1 decorated these and took them on our very special pilgrimage around the school. We ended the day by making our own pledge and promising to help our adults at home as a way of giving back to the community! We had lots of fun.

Seasons

Year 1 looked at the change of seasons from Summer to Autumn. We looked at what different activities we would do in the different seasons but also the different clothes we would wear. Year 1 were tasked to create a tree that would appear in Autumn. We went outside and observed the different changes that had occurred. We collected some leaves to add to our tree.

The Human Body

Year 1 had an exciting lesson learning about the different parts of the human body. We went outside and drew outlines of each other and labelled them with the correct terminology.

God's Creation

Year 1 have been learning about God’s creation. They listened to the story of how God created the world and illustrated a number based on what God did that day! We think they look great!
