Digging Pit
We worked so hard together today building and creating our digging pit! First, we rolled our delivery of tyres across the playground. We laid out the tarpaulin and moved the tyres into a circle shape so they could be tied together. After the wood chips had gone into the middle, we washed our white rocks and stones and then transported them over to the pit to go on the top. We finally enjoyed playing together with the diggers. A great day - well done everyone!
Child Led Worship
Reception children all took part in a very special class worship. Five children carefully planned what they would need and how they would like to set this up for the rest of the class. They also thought about the song they would like everyone to listen to, how we would pray and talk to God and how they would lead us in all of this.
The children gathered everyone, carefully laid everything out and led us in a beautiful class worship, guiding their friends in a calm and special way to spend time with God.
Chinese New Year
Reception spent a wonderful week celebrating Chinese New Year! We took part in many creative activities as we discovered and learned lots of information about this special celebration. Together, we painted and created an amazing Chinese dragon, plus lots of little dragons. At the end of the week, we took part in some dragon dancing together. Our week of celebrating ended with a delicious Chinese feast!
The Big Umbrella
As part of our RE journey, we shared a special story called the ‘The Big Umbrella’. This part of our learning helped us remember that Jesus wants us to care for other people and never leave anyone out, no matter who they are or what they look like.
We played some wonderful games with our huge parachute, imagining it was the big red umbrella from the story. We included every single person to share in the fun, laughter and joy of all being part of something very special.
Feast Day
To celebrate St Thomas Aquinas on Feast Day, we thought about a very special quote. St Thomas Aquinas said, ‘God is an artist, and the universe is His work of art.’
We remembered all our learning about God’s beautiful creation. We sang about His wonderful world, we prayed to say thank you and we explored our beautiful tray celebrating all the things He created in 7 days. We also made our own beautiful universes with the earth on one side and space on the other, to hang in our classroom.
We then became artists and, on our walk, sketched our own work of art of our favourite thing we could see that God created for us. After joining our Feast Day Mass with Fr. Gerard, we shared cake and juice to celebrate. Happy Feast Day!
Play Panel
We are so lucky in Reception to have a beautiful new Play Panel that we can all share! We looked together at some of the amazing things we can explore and learn about this year and then each had a turn to practise writing our sounds.
Pilgrims of Hope
We celebrated a very special day, being Pilgrims of Hope! We thought about the things we hope for, sang our Jubilee song and went on our walk around the path, proudly carrying the cross, our flag and a beautiful candle. At each station on our walk, we spotted the letters that made the word hope and said a special prayer together.
Baptism
We learned how God welcomes us into his family through Baptism. We played at being the priest and the families, giving our baby a special name in our Reception chapel. We blessed the baby, putting water on her head and making the sign of the cross.
New Bikes
Reception class have a brand-new set of bikes and balance bikes! We are practising using the road on our playground to drive safely and carefully. We are having lots of fun exploring the different ways to ride, sharing great experiences with our friends.
