Year RO

World Week

Last half term we celebrated World Week along with the rest of the school. Our country was Romania. We learnt all about where Romania was and the language that they speak. We heard all about how they decorate special eggs at Easter and we even learnt some Romanian songs! As part of World Week we also got to try food from all around the world. It was delicious – especially the Italian ice cream.

We also learnt about a different religion – Sikhism. We looked at the special clothes that Sikh people wear and learnt about how they share special bread after a service.

Mother Mary

Today we had a special meditation all about our Mother Mary. We learnt that during the month of May we pray with Mary. We all said the Hail Mary together using the actions that we had learnt before. Next we said a prayer with Our Mother Mary and then Miss Odell gave us the chance to share some of our own prayers about our own mothers. During our activity time some of us decided to colour some beautiful pictures of Mary that can go in our Special class RE book.

Class Assembly

On 9th May we performed our first ever class assembly in front of the whole school and lots of our friends and family too. In the assembly we retold the story of Emma Jane and her aeroplane. We thoroughly enjoyed dressing up, learning our lines and singing songs. We hope you all enjoyed watching it too!

Stations of the Cross

As part of Lent Reception have been learning the Stations of the Cross. Each day we have heard the next station which tells us about Jesus’ journey to his crucifixion. By the end of lent we were all able to recall the Stations of the Cross and talk about how we felt for Jesus. Lots of us decorated a footprint to go on our display showing Jesus’ Journey.

MK Gallery

Today was Reception’s first ever school trip. We were all very excited when we arrived at school and got ready to go on the coach. After a short coach journey we visited MK Gallery. At the gallery we worked with an artist called Beth. She had planned some activities for us to explore using all of our senses. We had lots of fun and they told us that we were the first school ever to visit the new gallery. We all got a special sticker and a booklet to take home to remember our fun day! Next we walked sensibly over to Build-a-Bear in the Centre MK. We all chose our class bear and helped to stuff it and put in a special heart. Finally we chose some clothes for our Teddy and named her Rainbow. Then we put her in a box ready to come back to school with us.

Chinese New Year

On Tuesday 5th February Reception enjoyed an exciting day celebrating Chinese New Year. We were very lucky to have two special visitors to our classroom to teach us about Chinese New Year. We decorated glittery good luck signs to take home with us and we learnt a song in Chinese! Next we used the dragon head that we had made to create our own Chinese dragon dance. Finally we enjoyed a delicious Chinese meal of fried rice, chow mein, sweet and sour chicken and prawn crackers.

Buildings

This half term we are learning all about Buildings. Last week we listened to the story ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ by Julia Donaldson. Then we all worked with our groups to try and build a bigger house for the animals. We had to work as a team and listen to each other’s ideas before we built our house in the role play building site. We were very proud of our work!

Epiphany

During our meditation today we reminded ourselves about the Epiphany when the Three Wise Men went to visit baby Jesus. Miss Odell told us the story and asked us if we could remember the special gifts that the three kings brought. They brought GOLD because Jesus was so precious, FRANKINCENSE which was like a special perfume and MYRRH.  After that we enjoyed singing the ‘We Three Kings’ song and watching a video to go with it. Then Mrs Latus took us all out into the courtyard and we saw that the baby Jesus had arrived in his manger and the Three Wise Men were there too.
