Year RW

Animals and Minibeasts

This half term our topic is ‘Animals and Minibeasts’.  During Science Week, we had a visit from the ‘Reptile Roadshow’.  We got to see and touch lots of different reptiles.  This week we have had a visit from Teaching Talons who showed us lots of different insects.  Some of us were very brave and even stroked some of them!

Class Assembly

Our class assembly was about Noah’s Ark. We practised lots and put a great deal of effort into learning our lines and the words and actions for the songs. Our performance was excellent! We made our whole school proud!

Transport and Journeys

Our new topic is ‘Transport and Journeys’. We made our favourite way to travel using junk modelling materials. Here are some of our creations.

Bishop Peter

This week has been a special week as Bishop Peter came to visit us. We were very excited and asked Bishop Peter lots of questions.

World Book Day

We celebrated world book day by dressing up as our favourite book characters. We read lots of stories and it was a great day!

Mass Role Play

This week we set up our classroom like a church and we went to a ‘pretend’ Mass. The altar servers walked down the aisle and we sang an entrance hymn. Some of us pretended to be our mummies and daddies receiving Holy Communion and some of us received a blessing from the ‘priest’. We experienced what it felt like to gather at Mass.

Chinese New Year

As part of our Festivals and Celebrations topic, we took part in a Chinese New Year celebration day. It was an exciting day of activities! We dressed in red as this is a lucky colour in Chinese culture. We made our own Chinese dragons and had Chinese food for lunch. In the afternoon, we performed a Chinese New song and a dragon dance.

Visit to Milton Keynes Theatre and MK Gallery

We have been learning about Toys. We visited Milton Keynes Theatre where we did a fun activity with a drama teacher who showed us how we could act like different types of toys.  We even got to look backstage at the theatre and imagine what it would be like to be an actor or actress on the stage.

We also had the chance to explore the artwork at MK Gallery. We enjoyed investigating the different materials we could use in the art gallery.

Freezing and Melting

We have been making the most of the frosty weather this week to learn about freezing and melting. We used natural materials to make these beautiful ice sculptures! We added leaves, grass and flowers from our playground to small cups of water. We left them outside and when we came to school the next day, the water had changed! It had frozen and was hard. When we brought them into our warm classroom, they began to melt very quickly. Luckily, it was still cold outside so we used them to decorate our playhouse.
