Year 3M

Volcano Eruptions

The children have worked hard to create their own volcanoes using lots of different materials. By using sulphuric acid, vinegar and food colouring, we created our own volcano eruptions!

Art – Volcanoes

Year 3 have been studying the artist Katsushika Hokusai, we found out all about his life and Japanese woodblock painting before having a go at sketching and painting Mount Fuji. The results were excellent!

Verulamium Museum

Year 3 had a fantastic trip to the Verulamium Museum in St Albans. We learned lots about Roman life in the museum and took part in a Roman market day where we had to find a selection of items from a shopping list. We finished the day by visiting the Verulamium hypocaust and mosaic.

Class Assembly

Year 3 performed their Roman themed class assembly this week. The children shared many facts about the Romans (with some added humour) and worked so hard to remember their lines and the song lyrics. Everyone really enjoyed their performance. Well done 3M!

Building 3D Shapes

In Maths, we have been learning about geometry. We learned about the properties of different shapes and then had a go at building some of our own 3D shapes using pipe cleaners and craft straws. The results were fantastic!

Playscripts

In English, we have been learning about playscripts. We started by reading them and identifying the key features. Then the children picked a playscript in groups, rehearsed and then performed to the class. All the performances were brilliant, with some groups adding great humour to their play!

Judaism Week

During Judaism week Year 3 were visited by Mrs Elijah who taught us all about Shabbat.  We saw all of the special items that are laid on the dinner table and were even lucky enough to be able to try Challah bread.

No Pens Day

Year 3 took part in lots of activities on No Pens Day this year. We took part in one very tiring lesson in particular, an outdoor Maths lesson which worked on our multiplication skills and lots of different exercises.  We all really enjoyed it but were very tired!

Discovery Centre – Bradwell Abbey

Year 3 visited the Discovery Centre in Bradwell Abbey to learn about the Stone Age. ‘Boudicca’ told us all about how the Stone Age people hunted for food and survived on a day to day basis. It was a great day as we even had a go at creating our own Stone Age cave art!
