No Pens' Day

No Pens’ Day 2017

Our annual No Pens’ Day celebration got off to a terrific start with performances from Reception and Year 1. We were treated to ‘Miss Polly had a dolly’, ‘London’s burning’, and a wonderful recital of ‘The Gruffalo’. Mrs Atherton confiscated all of the teachers’ pens which they had smuggled into the hall to make sure no one did any writing for the rest of the day! There were a range of other exciting activities throughout the day, such as ‘Philosophy for Children’, maths problem solving and Shakespeare drama. Year 2 took part in a Spelling Bee and really impressed the adults with their ability to spell some tricky words. During the afternoon, Key Stage 2 gathered in the hall to watch the debating competition, which was of a very high standard as always. The debating teams, made up of children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, did a fantastic job presenting their case for and against each topic. The judges had their work cut out to choose the winners! Well done to everyone for working hard to develop their speaking and listening skills – we are looking forward to next year’s No Pens’ Day already!
